With the semifinal victory, we played Blue team for the championship.  This was difficult for Orange because we had just played the semifinal game a couple minutes before the finals.  Also Blue team was undefeated in the regular season.  They had a plethora of good shooters as well as slashers.  When we played them in the regular season we lost by three points in overtime.  We were hoping to put up a good effort.

We began the game a bit tired and off balance.  Blue team was able to break down our defense with their dribble penetration and solid outside shooting.  By the end of the 1st half we were down by 15 points.  Our problems on defense continued and this led to some frustrations within our team.  One of our players in frustration threatened to leave the game.  But after cooling down, he was able to finish.  We played hard throughout the game, but were unable to handle Blue team’s superior athleticism and outside shooting.  The final score was 82-62.

It was a great season for Orange team and I had a blast playing in the league.  This was my first full season of playing “organized basketball” and I’m glad for the experience.  I’ve learned a lot about myself and was able to see how the Lord has matured me.  I no longer get easily frustrated when I play poorly as I know that my identity is not rooted in my performance in athletics.  I was able to feel God’s pleasure particularly in my attitude throughout the season.  Praise the Lord.

After the quarterfinal win last Wednesday, Orange team faced another game the following day against White team.  During the regular season White team defeated us by about 20 points.  However, in that game we did not have our entire roster and particularly our 6’7” center.

We played extremely well on both ends of the floor and ended the first half tied 20-20.  Then in the second half, the White team was able to get to the basket more easily and we were losing by five points.  However, Orange team in typical fashion battled back and through defense were able to get the win over white with the final score of 87-77.

I scored 6 points shooting 2-7.  After defeating White team we were to play Blue team for the finals.

This week the IHOP Basketball League playoffs begun.  We only have five players who were able to make the game due to scheduling conflict.  So we really had to conserve energy and play hard.  Yellow team who has played really well during the season was going to be a tough opponent.  They had many close games where they had only lost be a couple of points, thus we knew that we had to play well.

The first half started well as we were able to get to a 13 point lead by the end of the first half.  We played good defense and were able to get easy looks at the basket through good ball movement.  The second half was a different story.  They began to pressure the ball and were able to come back and take the lead with two minutes left in the game.  We were also having some mis-communication.  We turned the ball over multiple times during this half.

However, we were able to make a couple of key defensive stops and were able to win the game by four points.  The final score was 67-63.

I did not play well this game as I went 0-7 shooting.  However, I was able to make a critical free throw with 10 seconds to go to put our team up by four points.  The semi-finals and finals will be played today as we go against top ranked white team.  It should be a great game.

This was our last regular season game and we were looking forward to finishing well.  I was looking forward to playing after being sick with a sinus infection the previous week.

We came to the gym and found out that Gray team forfeited because they did not have enough players.  However, we still played against a mixture of some of the top three point shooters in our league.  There were two players from Blue team, two from white, and one from Green.  They essentially had four shooting guards and one big man on their team.

We started the game knowing that we had to play solid defense against this team because of their uptempo play and precision shooting from behind the arc.  We were able to utilize the team chemistry that we built over the course of the season and came out to a 9 point lead at the end of the first half.

In the second half, we were able to play solid defense and get some open shots.  We also were aggressive to get to the free throw line.  With about 10 minutes to go in the half we had increased the lead to 14 points.  However, the other team made a come back with a multitude of three pointers.  We were able to hold them off and won by the score of 82-78.

This game was a good test on how well we rotate on defense and are able to handle those who can penetrate the paint and then rely on their three point shooting.  I was able to go 2 for 7 shooting and really enjoyed this game.  Next week starts the playoffs.

I was unable to play in this crucial game as I came down with a sinus infection.  However, I was able to hear from one of my teammates that we lost by three points.  This team was known for its three point shooting and ability to get out on the fast break.  I was glad to hear that our team put up a fight and almost won the game.

Next week we will face Gray team and I believe that it will be our last regular season game before the playoffs.

Tonight’s game was a bit hard to understand at points.  After coming off our blowout win against Red team I was expecting more of the same up-tempo, hard-nosed defensive play for this game.  We started off playing well and got out to an early lead with Jake P. hitting 4-4 from behind the arc.  Our defense was good, however, we did not convert as we turned the ball over.  Also their team was hitting their three-pointers and we ended the half only up by two points.

In the second half, we continued to turn the ball over and leave their shooters open and they ended up taking a four point lead with about 10 minutes left in the game.  We took a quick time-out to regroup and regained our composure and played our style of play.  We made some crucial free throws down the stretch and were able to come out with the win.  The final score was 57-54.

I had a bit of a slow start as I went 1-4 shooting, but I made a crucial driving layup with about 40 seconds left in the game to put us up three points.  Everything did not go as smoothly as last week’s game, but it was a good challenge for us to persevere through some poor play and be able to hold onto the win.  So far our season record is 3-2.

After last week’s loss against white, we were ready for our game against red.  This was the first game that we had our entire squad and we were ready to see how we work together as a team.  We got out of the gates running as we played great defense and got a lot of easy layups.  We started off with a 7-0 run with our fast tempo offense.  Red team was missing one of their star players, who gets to the bucket regularly.  By the end of the half we had a comfortable 30 point lead.

During the second half, our team got on fire from behind the arc.  One of players, Jake Potelka, hit three straight three pointers and ended the game with 20 points.  We continued to get easy transition buckets and played great team ball.  By the end of the game the score was 110-57.

I played my best game of the season scoring 8 points shooting 3-6 from the field.  I also had two assists.  I’m glad that we were able to mesh well as a team as we had a bit more rhythm and fluidity playing together.
